It was the summer of 2018 when I first learned about the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a set of standards that helps companies understand and report on their impact on a wide range of sustainability topics. I thought that was the coolest thing ever! A clear framework that companies can use, with guidance and metrics for each relevant topic for the business. Soon after that I learned about other similar standards and frameworks that companies can use to build resilience and create competitive advantage.  

And the more I learned about these frameworks, standards and tools, the more I realized that they are mainly used by the larger companies. Yes, they can be difficult to navigate, but they can be adjusted to be used by small businesses. 

This motivated me to become certified in several internationally recognized frameworks and standards, with the goal of making them accessible to small businesses. I focus on helping you implement these concepts effectively to strengthen your business resilience.

Born and raised in communist Romania, my voice was never loud. At first I was not allowed to use it, then that became ‘me’. It took me more than 2 decades after communism fell to remember I have a voice. The process to regain my voice was not easy, I still struggle with it. I emigrated to the United States two decades ago, but I still have moments when I translate what I hear into Romanian, prepare a response in Romanian, translate it in English, and then say it outloud. And on top of this, the slight speech impediment that haunted me since childhood carried over when I switched to speaking English. 

My husband and I moved to the United States in the early 2000s, bringing with us only four suitcases and $2,000.  Life was not easy (it never is, right?), and we worked hard to make a decent living.  I had started a career in Romania, which I left behind when we moved. In the U.S., I embarked on a new career, one I maintained until our two children were old enough to be more independent. Then, I made the difficult decision to leave my stable, good-benefits-decent-paid corporate job, seeking the flexibility to follow my passion and spend more time with my mother, who has struggled with mental health issues since I was a teenager. Being there for her has brought her comfort and a sense of stability.

Now, I’m building my third career, one that I’m determined to make lasting. As my children prepare to leave the nest, this moment feels like the right time to fully commit to what brings me joy and peace. I’m passionate about contributing to the greater good, and this new chapter in my life is dedicated to just that—making a meaningful impact in the world around me.
